Mustang Read-A-Thon

Kickoff Assembly October 1st

  • Introduce the Readathon with a skit featuring the Mustang mascot (Mr. Robert in Mustang blow up costume)
  • Share the goal: raise money for the school while reading as many minutes as possible.
  • Reading Pledges
  • Students collect pledges from family and friends either per Minute or Flat Donation
  • Tracking Reading
  • Each student gets a Reading Log shaped like a racetrack with Mustang hoofprints.
  • For every 15 minutes read, they color in a hoofprint to move their Mustang farther down the trail.

Classroom Challenge

  • Each classroom has a large poster with a big Mustang horse graphic running the track for every 100 minutes the class reads, the Mustang moves closer to the finish line 
  • If the class completes the trail they earn another recess. 500 total minutes earned? 

Fundraising & Rewards

  • Individual Rewards for the kids with the Most Minutes Read at the end of the month in each grade band can choose a mustang Hoodie or a $20 gift card to Paper Boat books
  • Individual who raises the most money in the school can choose a mustang Hoodie, mustang t-shirt or $20 gift card to Paper Boat Books 
  • Class Goal: Single Class with most minutes read in the whole school earn a pizza party
  • School-Wide Goal: If the whole school reaches 200,000 minutes for the month of October the top reader in the school will get to put a pie in Mr. Mannings Face! 

Wednesdays in October Mustang Spirit Days 

  • Wednesday Oct 1st : “Kick Up Your Hooves & Read” (wear boots or western gear)
  • Wednesday Oct 8th: “Trot into a Tale” (bring a stuffed animal to read to)
  • Wednesday Oct 15th: “Wild About Words” (crazy hat day)
  • Wednesday Oct 22nd:  “Mustang Pride” (wear school colors/tye dye shirts)

Friday October 31st “Ride Into Adventure” (favorite book character costumes)

Final Readathon Assembly October 31st (Book Character Day) in Afternoon
